The Charge! -- Voice of the Peoria Jaycees

In November 1994, I joined the Peoria Jaycees.  The following May I stepped up and volunteered to edit their chapter newsletter, The Charge!  and continued to edit the publication until December 1999 (even though I did a couple of months in 2000).  Using a similar format from my previous newsletter, the Super Video Update, I was able to gain a lot of praise, recognition and support for our chapter and its newsletter.  This newsletter featured plenty of stories of happenings within the chapter and its members.  Most stories were largely true, just written with a flare to bring excitement.  But most popular with readers was stories that were mostly or all fiction.   It was always my goal to make this newsletter entertaining enough that when someone would find it in their mailbox, they would drop everything they were doing to glance through it.

The Charge!, to my surprise, brought a strong following (or cult as some would say) of readers, and saw 5 newsletter awards during my years as editor.  I feel I accomplished the goal I set out to do with this publication.

The Foolish Investor -- Proving The World Over That A Fool And His Money Are Soon Parted

In 1996, I volunteered to become the secretary-treasurer of the GPQ Investment Club, an investment club I was involved with friends from high school.  I found just sending monthly statements of our investments to be dull, and in an attempt to get others more involved, I developed yet another newsletter to convey investment information.   This newsletter was much smaller than that of The Charge!  It featured stories from the media (the *real* media this time) regarding companies we owned stock in.   Of course I would add in humorous stories and other features.  I quit doing The Foolish Investor in 1999 as the investment club was losing interest and we eventually decided to dissolve the partnership.
