Smoke Break February, 1993 - Jackson Hole, Wyoming

This is one of our favorite vacation places... Jackson Hole.  Dennis takes a break after stepping off the Tram and coming down Rendezvous Bowl.  After a quick smoke, it's down Rendezvous Trail and back up the Upper Sublet Lift.  Of course, another smoke break will ensue during the lift ride.

May, 1986 - Indianapolis 500

One of our pilgrimages during college was to go to the Indy 500.  In 1986 we endured a very "wet" Indy 500, both in terms of weather and drinks.  We usually camped outside the track overnight and then went into the infield the morning of the race.  But this particular year, it was cold and rainy.  We set up tents to sleep in, but the rain still flooded them all (not that we were going to get any sleep anyway... it sounded like there was a Doors concert going on at 4am just a few tents down from us).  Thank God we brought along 2 kegs of beer.  The race was called off that year and was rescheduled for the following week... we got to go again!

In this photo, you can see us burning a lawn chair, an act we did each and every year.   We go into the infield loaded up with junk, but usually leave empty handed.

"No more Delta..." The DUI House May 1987 - DUI House, SIU at Carbondale

What happens if you can't or don't want to join a "real" fraternity?  Why, you start your own of course!  Behold, Delta Upsilon Iota... the DUI house at 507 W. Main St.  Dennis and some others rented a house at SIU where the majority of his roommates had a DUI on their record.  Thus the idea for their new fraternity.

This photo was taken circa May, 1987 after the SIU Springfest.  It was the last days of staying in the house, as the parties had taken its toll.  It was the night before this photo was taken when spray paint was used to "redecorate" the interior of the house, as well as some of the exterior.

The ATO House October 1991 - ATO Epsilon Nu Homecoming

The brothers, Alumni and guests all proudly display their "real" fraternity house during (what I think was) Homecoming 1991.  This was a great house!!  A lot of great memories were had there, especially as you can see in the photo, on the front porch and yard.  I think that's "Magilla" on the roof.  Ah yes, if those walls could only speak... but then again, I'm kinda glad they can't.

September 1993 - Birdhouse Bar, Anchorage, Alaska

While travelling in Alaska with Gary, we stumbled upon a unique saloon just east of Anchorage.  The Birdhouse, was a place where the floor was sawdust, bar stools were mere tree stumps and the bar itself was not level (you always had to hold your drink, otherwise it would slide down to the other end of the bar).  The walls were decorated with business cards of others who had stopped there, as well as women's lingerie, notes, nick nacks and even an artificial limb!  I left my Playmate Video card (it had the silhouette of a nude woman).  The bar even brewed their own beer.

Gary and I stayed there for quite a while.  We must have seen three different groups of people enter, order a round or two and leave.  Just call us Cliff & Norm I guess.

Joe & Gina (1983)

Tom, Joe & Matt (c. 1985)

From the Darkroom

In high school, Dennis and I kept a darkroom in the basement where we could develop black & white pictures.  A lot of these pictures were of parties we attended... I guess the statute of limitations has expired and we can present some of these treasures today.

On the top is Joe & Gina sometime in 1983.  After two previous failed attempts at dating, the third time proved to be a charm.  The two wed in 1996.   This photo was taken we they were first dating.  Because of this photo, they had a picture taken of them using this same pose when they got married.

The picture on the bottom is Tom, Joe K. and Matt.  If you can look close enough, this photo depicts the kind of beer we regularly drank during the era.  Red, White & Blue.  A case in returnable bottles for only $5... what a deal!.

March 1985 - Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Between the beer parties and wrestling matches, you can see that this room is in dire need of housekeeping.  But what's a college student to do during Spring Break?

This room at the Days Inn had it all, from the "north winds" that kept us cold at night the to tight security that protected us from harm.  We will always remember this trip.  Tom is seen writing some post cards.. or perhaps his last will and testament.  Yea... this was also the year the car was stolen.

Lookin' Good! Septmember 1991 - Ft. Lauderdale, Florida... again?

On a trip with Gary Poupard and Jim Rankin to Florida, we made a pit stop into the Elbow Room on Ft. Lauderdale's strip.  Several long island ice-T's later, I somehow managed to finish the last 4 pictures on my camera.  Out of film, I managed to walk into a shop, purchase a new roll of film, unload the old film, load the new roll and take four more pictures.  Mind you, the camera I was using was not an automatic one.

The next day I noticed the film roll displaying "4."  Curious, I questioned Gary and Jim and to my disbelief, stated that I had used up the old roll, purchased new and continued.  Funny, I really don't recall a thing.  The last thing I remember was looking at the beach from the Elbow Room, seeing double.   Abducted by aliens?... if so it must have been a fun time.  Here is one of the photos from those "lost" 8 pictures.
